Making the Case, 2011

(performance and sculpture)

'Making the Case' is about putting oneself out there over and over again as an artist. Each new idea, proposal, new connection is beautiful and delicate in of itself, and contains a great deal of hope and imagination. Sending these gestures 'out there' into the world has the kind of possible futility of sending paper airplane after paper airplane out into the wind. But over time these gestures accumulate. By stacking paper airplanes into an unlikely and structurally questionable tower, 'Making the Case' observes the precarious yet certain process of this accumulation.

Created as part of 'Hang In There', a group show curated by Jason Lazarus about artists considering motivation, morale, and their careers.
